Happy Birthday GiGi!

Julia turned 29 years old today!!
I can't believe my little sister is getting so old. My Dad made a fantastic meal of grilled chicken, asparagus, mashed potatoes, and a healthy salad. Then we had ice cream and pineapple cake for dessert. Amazing as always!

Emi and Kingston enjoyed helping to blow out the candles and participate in the opening of presents. A fun time was had by all. The bad thing was Darren was sick and couldn't come over to enjoy the festivities. Feel better babe.

Kingston is crawling so fast and ready to take his first steps. He is getting so big that I can't believe he will be 1 in May.

It is a New Moon Tonight. Write down all of the things you want to accomplish, new projects you would like to start, places you want to go, etc.

This will be the direction of my next project. The decor & colors are amazing!

I always liked the look for these kitchen towels.

I have been doing lots of research and inspiration for my next steps in my career. This is an inspiration board that I have put together. This is one of many.

I am open to new possibilities in my life & I know that the next steps will be exciting and fulfilling.

I unfortunately hurt my knee running so much. I have been resting it and doing some stretches to get it back. But overall, another great workout week. We even got some sun breaks and I got to run outside a few times. That is always fun. But I think that this is what upset my knee because I was running on concrete again.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BABY!

Time sure does fly when you are having fun. It has been 6 Years for Darren and me.
Who knew that me meeting this handsome man at Pottery Barn would bring together six years! Darren has been a huge part of my family and my parents welcome our relationship with open arms. We can't wait to take the next steps in our relationship.

Darren wanted to make this year special for us giving that everything that we had gone through in the past year and over just this past week. We spent the day together going to dinner and to a movie. The Watchmen, of course was long but the story line was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. We had a great day together.

Darren did a great job in trying to keep me busy yesterday and not thinking about my family in Ohio. He listened when needed and help my hand throughout the whole day. Those are the moments that I cherish with him. The comforting feeling that someone is there when you need them.

I love you baby.

It took the Wind out of me..

Yesterday was hard.
Mom cried, Dad cried, I cried. Thinking about my dear Uncle Bob and how he touched all of our lives.
Dad had to literally hold up Aunt June during the funeral. I can only imagine how she is feeling.
My body feels numb thinking about the whole thing.
Bob was so young.
Taken away so quickly.

Exhausted Emotionally & Physically

This has been the most exhausted week since I have been back in Portland. Mom and I have been doing lots of reading and research about the next steps that we want to take with our careers. This is encompassing my brain 24/7, which can be exciting or exhausting. More exciting right now!

Then we get the news from my cousin that my Uncle Bob had a massive stroke and is paralyzed on his left side. I called my aunt June and spoke with her for a while on Tuesday. It was great to hear her voice and to reach out. She sounded in shock, but doing ok. There was a follow up call on Wednesday morning that Bobby didn't make it. This took the wind out of me. WHAT?? Why is the happening? He lived far away but was still there with us through so much. My dad and him were really close and always had fun laughs when we were all together. Dad flew out to Dayton this morning and sounded tired from the long flight. My dad is a hero. he really holds his family together. He loves his family and will be there to guide them on their right paths and make everyone feel a little more at peace with the whole thing. I really wish we could have all gone out for the funeral, but finances aren't the greatest right now. I would love to see my cousins and my cute aunt. We are sending our best through my dad.

Bob was a positive guy that everyone loved. A guy you could call up and just chat with. He adored his girls and would do anything for them. He loved animals and especially cats. His career consisted of refinishing old furniture and even did a couple of pieces for me. He was a big guy that treated his family with nothing but love. My fondest memory of his is when we were in his back yard and shooting off fireworks. His laugh was intoxicating and he could cook a mean steak on the grill. He will surely be missed! RIP Robert Supensky! Mary please take care of him...

The funeral is set for Saturday and Mom and I might go up to the local church and say a little prayer for him. He will live in our hearts forever.

Call your family and tell them you love them and what they mean to you. Money is nothing right now with this economy and at the end of the day what is important is family.

Blueberry Crumb Muffins

Here’s the recipe.

Set rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees. Get one 12-cavity muffin pan ready with paper liners.

Crumb Topping

1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon, 6 tbsp. unsalted butter, 1/2 cup light brown sugar.

Combine flour, baking powder, and cinnamon in a medium mixing bowl and stir well to mix. Melt the butter in a small pan. Remove from heat, then add the brown sugar to the pan of melted butter and use a small heatproof spatula to stir them together. Scrape the butter and sugar mixture into the flour mixture, stirring it in until the flour is evenly moistened. Set aside while preparing the muffin mixture.

Muffin Batter

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg, 8 tbsp. (1 stick) softened unsalted butter, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup light brown sugar, 2 large eggs, 1/2 cup milk, 1 pint of blueberries that have been rinsed, drained, and picked over.

Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a mixing bowl and stir well to mix.

Combine the butter and sugars in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat on medium speed for about 1 minute, or until well mixed and a little lightened in color. Beat in the eggs one at a time, beating smooth after each.

Decrease the mixer speed to low and beat in 1/2 the flour mixture. Stop the mixer and use a large rubber spatula to scrape down the bowl and beater.

On low speed, beat in the milk. After the batter has absorbed the milk, beat in the remaining flour mixture. Stop and scrape down the bowl and beater again.

Add the blueberries to the bowl and beat them into the batter on the lowest speed for no more than 2-3 seconds, to crush some of the berries slightly.

Remove the bowl from the mixer and use a large rubber spatula to give a final mixing to the batter.

Divide batter equally among the cavities in the muffin pan. Break the crumb topping into small crumbs with your fingertips and scatter over the top of each muffin. (At this point, I personally mounded the crumb topping on because there was so much of it! If you don’t like a sweet topping, stick to the scatter) Bake the muffins until they are well risen, feel firm to the touch, and the topping is golden, about 30 minutes. Cool the muffins in the pan on a rack.
